MEAT PRODUCTION. SEVEN MONTHS’ EXPORT KILLINGS. The official figures of export killings at the Dominion’s freezing works from Ist October, 1940, till 3rd May, 1941, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, show that lamb killings have reached a total of 9,892,408 or 658,114 carcases above that of the previous season. Ewe killings now show a decrease of 250,885 carcases compared with the previous season, the current total being 1,382,949. Wethers have declined by 623,805, the killings this season totalling 540,447. Frozen beef production has reached 441,687 quarters, compared “with 325,178. Porker killings (145,202 in the North Island and 4791 in the South) total 149,993, showing an increase of 93,668 carcases. Baconer killings were as follows: North Island, 286,819 (compared with 285,263); South Island, 9689 (10,631), an increase this season of 614 carcases. Killings of choppers total 10,206, being an increase of 249. SALE AT CAMBRIDGE. Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited reporp on their usual tri-weekly sale held at Caimjbridge on Monday, when a short yarding of sheep and cattle came forward to meet a ready market. A pen of nice-quality bullocks from Miss V. G. Allwell realised £ll, and heavy fat heifers from Mr Geo. Vosper met a good market to sell at £9 2s 6d We quote:— Cattle: Heavy fat bullocks . £ll, heavy fat heifers £9 2s 6d, light fat cows £5 to £5 14s, light fat heifers £5 to £5 9s, medium boners £4 4s to £4 10s, lighter ditto £3 3s to £3 15s, good-quality springing heifers £7 10s. PRICES FOR SHEEPSKINS. THE SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED. The New Zealand sheepskin controller advises that the following schedule of prices for sheepskins will operate .in the case of green skins from 24th May, and in the case of dry skins from! 31st May (the prices refer to skins in brokers’ stores):— Full wools: Half-bred, 9Jd to IOSd per lb; cross-bred, BJd to 9id. Threequarter wools: Half-bred, Bld to lOd; cross-bred, 73d to 9d. Half wools: Half-bred, 64d to 7id; cross-bred, 6id to 7d. Quarter wools: Half-bred, 4ld to 43d; cross-bred, 41d to 43d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company reports a full yarding of ox and cow beef at Frankton, on Tuesday. There was also a good entry of veal. Boner and store cattle were penned in large numbers. Cattle sold, well in all sections with values much on a par with last week. We had practically a total clearance at auction. Sheep: There was again a good yarding of fat sheep, ewes predominating. Wether values were very firm, ewes if anything were a little easier than last week. Store lambs sold readily, especially forward conditioned sorts. Fat lambs were well up to recent quotations. Heavy fat wethers to 26s 6d; medium ditto 23s 6d to 24s 6d; light ditto 19s to 21s; heavy fat ewes to 14s; medium ditto 9s to Ils 6d; light ditto to 16s 6d; heavy fat lambs to £1 6s; medium ditto £1 2s 6d to £1 4s; light ditto 19s to £1 Is; very forward woolly lambs to 18s Id; smaller and inferior Ils 3d. Pigs: There was an average yarding of both fat and store pigs, prices remaining on a par with recent quotations.
