KING’S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY DATE. OBSERVANCE THIS YEAR. No dispatch has been received from the United Kingdom Government on the question of the observance of the King's Birthday as a public, holiday in New Zealand on some other date than the first Monday in June thi’ year. Last year, shortly before the first Monday in June, an amending provision was made as a war emlergency measure in respect of the observance of the birthday for that year, the holiday being transferred from the first Monday in June to 25th November.
Sports bodies and others who have made inquiries on the subject have been advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that it has no knowledge of any similar proposal this year, and that in terms of the Sovereign’s Birthday Observance Act of 1937 the birthday of His Majesty King George VI. will be observed on Monday, 2nd June.
