The position regarding the observance of the King’s Birthday holiday was explained by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, recently, as follows: “ By regulations issued on 11th September provision is made for observance of the King’s Birthday holiday on Monday, 25th November,” said the Minister. “ Under the Sovereign’s Birthday Observance Act of 1937 the day fixed as the holiday is the first Monday in June. However, on account of the war situation at that time, the Government decided to postpone the holiday until ia later date. The regulations fixing 25th of November as the holiday to be observed this year provide that any provision in any Act, award, industrial agreement, agreement under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, or iany voluntary agreement providing for the holiday or the payment of particular rates of wages on the King’s Birthday shall ar-’- on 25th November of this year.**
