WOMEN’S AUXILIARY

VOLUNTEER CORPS BRANCH FORMED IN TE AWAMUTU A meeting was held in the Waipa County Council Chambers last evening to form a Women’s Auxiliary Volunteer Corps. There was a good attendance, ovex- fifty enthusiasts being present. Mrs J. C. Montefiore, who octupied the chair, introduced Mrs 11. C. Ross, of Hamilton, who gave a very interesting address on the work of the Corps in Hamilton. Mrs Ross also gave several kAts which will be very useful in the future working of the Corps in Te Awamutu.

The following officers were elected:—Patroness, Mrs J. C. Montefiore; commanding officer, Mrs Allan Kay; secretary, Miss B. Nobes; assistant secretary and treasurer, Miss F. Brooks.

It was decided that the age limit be 18 years to 40 years, but girls of 17 years will be accepted for the first three meetings on probation. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr J. G. Holmes for his generous off ex* of the free use of his building for drill purposes was passed. It was decided to make a charge of Is per head per month to cover expenses.

The first meeting of the Corps will be held in Mr Holmes’ building, Sloane Street, on Thursday next, and thereafter every Wednesday.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mrs Ross and Mrs Montefiore.
