POINTS OF VIEW

OPINIONS OF OUR READERS. PACIFISTS OR ENEMIES? Sir, —I have been asked how that body known as the Peace Pledge Union (I suspect it should be rightly named something else!) can be called a Nazi body, when under the Nazi regime members of such unions have been imprisoned. The present war is one between democracy and Nazism. Democracy stands for international peace and freedom for free speech and even-handed justice Nazism stands for German domination of the whole world and the enslaving of the rest of the world. We all have to choose between these two ideals, and when you find people who call themselves a Peace Pledge Union attacking Britain, the home of democracy, and glorifying Germany, we know that their name of Peace Pledge Union is pure camouflage and that its real name is Nazi propaganda agents. The members of the Peace Pledge Union are doing their utmost to prevent recruiting and so are doing their utmost to help Hitlerism. The Oxford pacifists are the genuine article; they know that true peace is dependent upon the victory of the Allies and they are prepared to give their lives for their ideal. As regards another frequent question concerning the British and New Zealand treatment of Asiatics I consider that Britain’s treatment of Asiatics shows that she is to be trusted to treat other nations liberally. I consider that you have either got to have endless wars or a proper policing of the whole world with an international court of justice. International injustice must either be remedied by international justice, in the same way as injustice is remedied in our courts of law, or wars must continue I consider that the entry of Chinese and Japanese into this or any othercountry is a matter for such a tribunal.—l am, etc., C. J. TAYLOR.
