BE WARY
WISHFUL THINKING “Fresh reports of internal unrest in Germany are cpming from various sources,” says the “Yorkshire Post.” “We should be very cautious in accepting these reports at face value. During the last year or two before the outbreak of war there was far too much wishful thinking in this country about Germany’s peaceful intentions. We must now be on our guard against similar agreeable expectations regarding the extent and influence fo internal opposition to the Nazi regime. The German people have for years been drilled and disciplined into habits of blind belief ;and automatic obedience, and modern scientific resources have equipped any Government, prepared to use these resources ruthlessly, with tremendous facilities both for warding off popular discontent by means of propaganda and for detecting and suppressing it should it occur.”
