FERTILISERS NEEDED
FOR BACK COUNTRY FARMS. TRANSPORT DIFFICULTIES. The fertiliser requirements of backblock/ farmers was discussed by the Waikato District Council of .Primary Production on Tuesday in Hamilton, when means of increasing farming wealth was under consideration. Mr F. C. Johnstone said it was not a matter of supplying these land owners with the manure but assisting them with transport arrangements. Mr S. C. B. Macky considered the plan could be carried out on the same lines as those proposed for the rural housing scheme. If the Government would assist the money could be advanced through the county councils! Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P., said the scheme would be impracticable for the county councils, and he thought the stock firms, who were in close touch with the farmers, could administer it better. It was decided to submit the council memorandum on the financing ot increased production, out of which the matter arose, to the National Council for Its consideration. A resolution that the Waikato Council’s scheme for assisting farmers in the Ohaupo area to clear tneir land be sent to headquarters, vias also carried.
