TWO DAYS’ SPORTS
A BIG ATTRACTION FOR TE AWAMUTU AMATEUR ATHLETICS. Good fields are engaged in almost every event at the two days’ sports meeting at Albert Park under the auspices of Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, on Saturday and Monday, 27th and 29th instant. Wien. nominations closed the secretary (Mrs Adams) compiled a list • of competitors, which well exceeds the hundred mark, and includes riders and runners from all over the province. It is noteworthy that the events to be decided on Monday (Anniversary Day) are appreciably larger than on the first day, due no doubt to the fact that Monday is a holiday, and several competitors will be working on Saturday. The figures for the principal events on the Saturday are as follow: Pedestrians: 100 yards, 15 entries; 220 yards, 21; 440 yards, 18; 1000 yards, 11; junior 880 yards, 9. Cyclists: Half mile, 14 entries; one mile. 14; junior mile, 9; derby, five miles, 12. Ladies’ events: 75 yards, 20 competitors; 150 yards, 15; broad jump, There will be national dancing competitions on the Saturday, with special events and trophies for local competitors. As most of those competing will be engaged at Hamilton on Anniversary Day, the national dancing section will be held only on Saturday.
