THOROUGHBRED SALES
SPLENDID YEARLINGS AT TRENTHAM. Two hundred and twenty attractively bred yearlings are catalogued for sale on Wednesday at Trentham, for the fourteenth annual national sale of thoroughbred yearlings, and practically all the well-known studs in New Zealand are represented by one cr more colts or fillies. Among the list is one from Te Awamutu, bred and owned by Mr W. J. Alexander, of Hairini Road. This is a very attractive black colt by imported Foxbridge from Rose Latour, and it is said to be just about the best youngster bred by Mr Alexander, so far as appearance and disposi - tion go. It will be remembered that last year Mr Alexander obtained 650 guineas for his entry, a Foxbridge— Eagar Rose, a half-sister to Rose Latour. This yearling was acquired by a New South Wales sportsman, and ... now races as Fearless Fox. He recorded a third placing in the A.J.C. Breeders’ Plate in October, and is expected to develop into a first-class three-year-old. Rose Latour, dam of the latest representative is also half-sister to Sweet Rose, Alunga, Arawa Rose, and others, and is by the Soult— Merry Nif horse General Latour, which achieved fame as the sire of Karapoti and other good ones. Rose Latour was a daughter of Wee Rose, a prolific matron, by Wairiki from Miss Rose, and as Wairiki was by Soult there is in-breeding to the St. Simon horse. Foxbridge is an imported son of Foxlaw, a grand staying son of Son-in-Law, and the mating of representatives of those two virile lines should result in a goodclass racehorse.
There will be much interest locally as to the price bidders are prepared to pay for Mr Alexander’s colt.
