MAORI BATTALION
MOBILISATION DATE FIXED. On Friday of next week, January 26, 638 men will be mobilised for the 28th Maori Battalion of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, which will encamp near Palmerston North. The Waikato quota is 35 men. The strength of the battalion has been reduced from the number originally planned. The men in the Waikato have been examined and the quota is available.
MORE VOLUNTEERS. HAMILTON AREA RECRUITING. The number of recruits who have joined up in the No. 4 (Hamilton) area in the past five days reached 198 on Friday with the enlistment of further volunteers. Medical examinations will be conducted this week, and the men passed fit are likely to enter camp at an early date.
