Second-Lieutenants A. C. Beachen and D. F. Phillips are posted to the Ist Battalion of the Waikato Regiment. according to a notice in the New Zealand Gazette. '
The engagement is announced of Harold William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. W- Liddington, of Orakau, and Phyllis Doreen, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. E. Kin. zett, of Korakonui.
Two former members of Parliament died on Friday last, Mr John R. Hamilton, former M.p. for Awarua, a brother of the present Leader of the Opposition (Hon. Adam Hamilton), and Mr Tau Henare, former M.P. for the Northern Maori electorate.
Mr and Mrs C. E. Fear and family, of Pirongia, have left on a motoring trip. They plan to spend a few days at Ohope Beach, and then,travel leisurely through the Poverty Bay and Hawke’s Bay districts en route to Wellington, to visit the Centennial Exhibition.
The death occurred, at Cambridge, on. Saturday morning, of Mr Patrick James Turney, a well known business man and younger brother of Mr John Turney, of Ohaupo. The late Mr Turney was born at Ohaupo and went from Te Puke to Cambridge about 25 years ago to establish a saddlery business. He was interested in all sporting activities in the district, and was a member of several local organisations. At one time he was a successful racehorse owner. In 1918 Mr Turney married Miss J. S. Black in St. Benedict’s Church, Auckland. He is survived by his wife, a son, Mr Allan Turney, and two daughters, Misses Mary and Ailsa Turney.
