TE RAU-A-MOA NOTES

HALL SOCIETY MEETING. FARMS CHANGE HANDS. (Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of Te Rau-a-MZ>a Haji Society was held last Friday evening, Mr Millar Anderson presiding over a fair attendance of members. Principally routine business was discussed. It was decided to hold a Christmas dance on 21st instant, and steps were taken to make the function one specially attractive to patrons, and it is understood several novelty dances will figure on the programme. INSPECTION OF ROADS. M|r B. MlcKenzie, the new engineer to the Otorohanga County Council, accompanied by Mr J. L. Wallis, the riding member, recently made an inspection of the roads in this part of the county. PERSONAL. Mrs Wi. J. Parkinson is at present visiting her mother, Mjrs Miair, at Papakura. GENERAL ITEMS. During the past week a wonderful fall of good, soaking rain has been experienced, and this has helped the feed along. District farms are looking in first-class order, and the dairy herds appear to be in excellent condition. It is reported that the farm formerly owned by Mr J. R. Randall has changed hands lately. The new owner is. it is stated, from the Papakura district. Mr Brown’s farm on Kiki Road, in the Hauturu Valley, is another property said to have changed ownership. TRIP TO HONIKIWI. Several Te Rau-a-M(oa folk ourneyed to Honikiwi to attend the annual dance of the district school, and a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment resulted. M'usic for the dance was supplied by Mr Bob Sklenars, and Mir Mc'Wjha was master of ceremonies. During the evening the Honikiwi school children gave a graceful display of folk dancing, and great credit must go to the teacher, Mr McW(ha, for the untiring interest he had taken in teaching the children their separate parts. Shirley Carter sang a yodelling number very sweetly, and it evoked loud applause. During the evening Mr Slatter, chairman of the School Committee, paid a warm tribute to Mr M.cWha for the way he had brought the children along in their studies. Mr MjcWha suitably acknowledged the tribute, thanking the Committee and stressing also the wonderful work of the ladies of the community. Among those present at the dance were: Mrs Millar Anderson (Te Eau-a-Mba), floral taffeta; Mrs Grierson, cloque frock; Mrs Corbin, floral marocain; Mrs Inness, sky blue silk; Mrs Carter, floral marocain; Mrs Bond, black and gold lace; Mrs Slatter, carmine red; Mrs Collins, green silk; Miss Easy (Te Rau-a-Moa), floral crepe; Miss Joan Rattray, green; Miss S. Carter, ivory white; Miss M. Smart (Pokuru), floral crepe; Mrs W, Kohe, dull black marocain; Mrs E. Hooper, Mrs J. Graham, Mrs A. Mead, Mrs B. Sklenars, Mrs H. Graham, Mrs M. Graham, Miss N. Mhmdy (Pirongia), Miss C. Kohe, Miss N. Bond, Miss F. Bond, Miss J. Graham, Miss M*. Graham. An interesting competition for possession of a leg of mutton (donated by Mr H. Graham) was won by Mrs B. Sklenars, and a Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Smart and Mr N. Anstis. The rose bowl competition was won by Mrs Slatter. The function, in addition to being a decided social success, was quite a financial success also, there being over £6 to be distributed in prizes for the school children.
