WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HAIRINI BRANCH. In spite of the calls upon women of the district in connection with the harvesting operations, there was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Puahue branch of the Women’s Institute on Wednesday afternoon. The roll-call was “Hints on Jam-making,” and it proved very interesting. Mrs H. Judge, a delegate to the recent bi-annual meeting of the Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes at Hamilton, read an interesting report of the principal maters dealt with at the conference, after which Mrs Currall read a letter from a link in England, telling of some of the experiences at Home. Mrs H. J. Webber, of Te Awamutu, demonstrated icing a Christmas cake. The sales table was conducted successfully by Mesdames Dean and Garrett. In a competition for the best Christmas novelty, Mrs Baillie, jun., and Mrs McMillan tied for first prize. The hostesses for the day Were the Misses Glasson, Cavanagh, Going and D. Ferguson.
