CLAY BIRD SHOOTING

WAIPA GUN CLUB. SOME NOTES AND COMMENTS. The Waipa Gun Club’s latest shoot, held last week-end, was notable foi me rather remarkable achievement oi one of the youngest members of any Gun Club in New Zealand, for young John Pollard, a son of Mr George Pollard, of Te Rahu Road, actually’ won the Ballistite Cup for the season. He was warmly congratulated, and at the close of the day he was accorded the rare honour of being “chaired” off the ground. John Pollard is only 15 years of age.

The Waipa Gun Club is specially fortunate in having the enthusiastic goodwill of the ladies, and match after match sees them present dispensing light, but very acceptable, refresh ment. Some other clubs are by no means so fortunate as Waipa in this respect. Latest improvements at the club’s shooting ground are worthy of special note. The appointments there make them second to none in the Auckland province, and probably not inferior in any respect to the best in the whole Dominion. The automatic double trap lias been much admired by marksmen, and the concrete “refuge” for the loader is now most effective. It is absolutely safe, and thus minimises the possibility of accident through misadventure. There is a concrete walk-up, marked off in yards, so that the marksman can see easily where he is to shoot from. These are only the principal items of improvement that have been carried out by the executive, headed by the enthusiastic and popular president, Mr W. H. Parish, than whom there is none better in the whole Dominion.
