GOLF AT HOME
DIFFICULTIES OF CLUBS. The big golf clubs are making a valiant effort to carry on, but they are facing great difficulties. In the —, case of some clubs it is feared that “ these difficulties will prove too great Z and may lead to virtual bankruptcy * unless some good sportsmen put their * ’ hands in their pockets and stave off T the day. Not only have many golfers been called up, but the black-out restrictions have affected the catering • - side, and in some of the clubs the bar " provides a substantial part of the annual income. Many clubs which - • served luncheons and dinners have closed their catering departments en- • tirely, and others arc wondering what • to do. At Walton Heath there has been a reduction of the ground staff, but they have not yet considered the ; introduction of women to work on the course, as was suggested in the last war. - 1 <■
