HONIKIWI NEWS

SPORTS CLUB ACTIVITY. (From a Correspondent.) Quite a number of settlers and members of the Honikiwi Sports Club attended the annual meeting held in Graham’s Barn last Saturday evening. Mr H. Graham presided, and decision was reached to hold the club’s annual picnic meeting on New Year’s Day, as has been the custom for several years now. Provision will be made in the programme for such popular events as wood-chopping, horse jumping, and pedestrian contests. One of the best contests will probably be the Memorial Chop, an event specially provided for in memory of the late Mr Graham, who for many years took such a great interest in the affairs of the Honikiwi district generally. The children of the district are also to be catered for, one of the events for them being a horse-jumping contest, for boy or girl rider. The election of officers of the Sports Club for the new term resulted:— President, Mr H. Graham; secretary, Mr Robt. Sklenars; committee, Messrs W. H. McKenzie, Doug. Williamson, J. Graham, H. Graham jnr., J. West, R. Slatter and P. Innes. At the conclusion of the meeting a very jolly dance was held, dance music being supplied by Mr R. H. Sklenars, while Mr D. Williamson acted as master of ceremonies. The Honikiwi Tennis Club, only recently formed, held its opening day on Saturday, 11th inst., when quite a large gathering of local and visiting players assembled. The court was in first-class order and it is expected that some very keenly-con-tested matches will eventuate as the season advances.
