SHEEP FOR TASMANIA

IA new market for New Zealand stud sheep, mainly Romneys, has been fostered by Wright Stephenson and Co Ltd. in Tasmania. Following on the visit of Mr Allan Stewart, managing director of the company of that name in Tasmania, orders were received for SO Romney ewes, 6 Southdown ewes, 6 Ryelands and a Border Leicester ram. These sheep have now arrived in Tasmania, and the quality of the New Zealand Romney has appealed so much that the Tasmanian Government have decided to commence a stud, and definite orders have been secured for the foundation stock. These will be for delivery next year, and will be secured from the fampus Waiorongomai stud of R. W. Matthews, the Te Marama stud of E. D. Warburton, Cheltenham, and the Alloa Stud of the late Quentin Donald. Inquiries have also been received for Ayrshire cattle and Tamworth and Berkshire pigs.
