POINTS OF VIEW

MILITARY SERVICE. Sir, —The response to the appeal of the Prime Minister to men to join up for national military service (defence) has been, to my mind, very disappointing, and it impels me to suggest that the names of those who have offered themselves for service should be published. This would let people know just who ate the men who realise their responsibilities. I know that, in our own district, as with many other places, the enlisted men include quite a number of returned soldiers, while the younger men have not yet realised their responsibilities. As a case in point, note the many eligible young men employed in various factories and in the offices of Government departments who have not yet answered the call. I might be doing some of them an injustice; but publication of the names of those who have enlisted would surely put them right in the eyes of the rest of the community.—l am, etc., OLD TIMER.
