HOTEL LICENSING
'WAIKATO COMMITTEE MEETS. The first meeting of the newly-con-stituted Waikato Licensing Committee was held in Te Awamiutu at midday yesterday, Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., presiding, and also present were Messrs L- G. Armstrong, W. Jeffery, J. T. Young, C. H. Priestley, and M. Wells. Mr J. L. Kerr, clerk, was in attendance. At the outset the chairman explained that this was not a new Committee, but really a meeting with new members, consequent upon the alteration in the boundaries of the licensing district. He added that the police and health reports concerning hotels in the district were all very favourable, and he congratulated the several licensees upon maintaining the good standard. Renewals of license were granted to the following:— Te Awamutu Hotel, Te Awamutu: Edward H. Cucksey, licensee. National Hotel, Cambridge: Victor E. Rickit, licensee. Ohaupo Hotel, Ohaupo: Stanley E. Rawlinson, licensee. Central Hotel, Cambridge: Walter Cuthbert, licensee. Waihou Hotel, Waihou: Norman E. Smith, licensee., Pirongia Hotel, Pirongia: Allen E. Hood, licensee. New lipenses were issued to the following:— Commercial Hotel, Te Awamutu: Percy Ellis, licensee. Masonic Hotel, Cambridge: Nelson E. Culpan, licensee. Messrs S. S. Preston (Te Awamutu), D. J. Lundon (Cambridge), and Noel Johnson (Hamilton) appeared for the applicants. Mr Preston assured the Committee that some necessary furnishings for the Masonic Hotel, Cambridge, had now been obtained, and in every way the Committee’s requirements wore’ complied with. “The Committee is of opinion that the fee for Pirongia Hotel, an accommodation license, should now be increased to £10,” said the chairman, who explained that for several years the fee had been £7 10s, reduced from the original figure of £lo.—The increase was accepted by the licensee.
