Mrs E. Bryant, of Waiuku, is at present the guest of Mrs W. Whitton, Pakura Street. Mrs M. McNair, of “ Thorncombe,” who has been spending a week or so in Auckland, has returned home. Sergeant S. G. ,Clist and Mrs Clist have arrived from' Taumarunui and taken up their residence in Te Awamutu. The postmistress at Kihikihi, Mrs Mclndoe, is at present on sick leave, and her place is being filled by Mr R. Jones, of the Te Awamutu Post Office staff. Mrs A- G. Rabbits, of Carterton, is a visitor to Te Awamutu, having come to take part in last week’s school jubilee celebrations. She is the guest of her brother, Mr John Teddy, of Park Road. The engagement is announced of Iris Ruth, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Andersen, Racecourse Road, and George, second son of Mr and Mrs A. B. Allen, Brady Street, Te Awamutu. Miss E. Stewart, of Masterton, who succeeds Miss H. J. O'Sullivan, supervisor at the Te Awamutu Telephone Exchange, will take over her new duties next week. Miss O’Sullivan is on transfer to New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs lan Forbes, of Opotiki, were in Te Awamutu to-day in the course of a motoring trip through Taranaki and Wellington provinces. Mrs G. Urquhart, of Rotorua, and her daughter, were interested visitors to the Te Awamutu School diamond jubilee celebrations last Saturday. Mrs Urquhart is the daughter of one of Te Awamutu’s earlier school masters, Mr John Rees. Mr James Parrish, of Parawera, and formerly of Stratford district, was accorded the honour of life membership at the annual meeting of the Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Association last week. It was mentioned at the meeting last night of the local Borough Council, when Cr J. A. Maxwell’s absence was apologised for, that he was making a good recovery from a recent operation, and that he hoped to be about again in a few days’ time. Mr Coutts, of Nelson, who has been visiting relatives in this district, has returned south. During his stay here, Mr Coutts found occasion to indulge in two or three games of bowls on the Victoria Park greens, and was warm in praise of the excellent playing conditions, and also of the friendliness of the club members in helping to make his stay an exceedingly pleasant one. • The funeral of the late Mr Henry Andrew, which took place yesterday afternoon, was attended by one of the longest corteges of mourners and sympathisers with the family that have been witnessed in Te Awamutu for a long time. After a short service at the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. J. C. Young, the interment took place at Te Awamutu cemetery. Before routine business was proceeded with at the meeting of the executive on Wednesday evening of Te Awamutu Returned Soldiers’ Association the president (Mr C. 0. Edmonds) referred to the bereavement sustained by. three members of the Association in the death of their father, Mr Henry Andrew, and at the speaker’s request all present stood in silence as a mark of sympathy -with the relatives.
