YOUNG LADY INJURED

KNOCKED OFF CYCLE BY VAN. A young lady named Evelyn Sapsford, of Kihikihi, while cycling to her employment at the N.Z. Co-oper-ative Dairy Co’s office in the lower part of Alexandra Street at about 8.30 this morning, was knocked off her bicycle and injured when a butcher’s delivery van, driven by an employee of Mr T. H. Welch, collided with it, Help was quickly at hand, and Miss Sapsford received attention for her slight concussion, extensive bruises and abrasions, and also for a small scalp wound. It appears that the van was being driven out of College Street and the driver pulled up to allow three other vehicles coming up Alexandra Street to pass him. Then he looked up the street, and, believing all was clear, he re-started his van and within a few yards collided with the cycle. The sun glare no doubt affected his vision, and from what can be found out the affair was purely an unfortunate accident. The intersection of College and Alexandra streets is a narrow one, and the sealing is not full-width of the thoroughfare. Several narrow escapes from collisions have occurred there, and it behoves all cyclists and drivers of vehicles to be extra careful there, especially now that there are three or four hundred pupils attending the Intermediate High School in the vicinity.
