KAWHIA GOLF CLUB

TO RESUME ACTIVITIES. A well attended meeting of those interested in the resuscitation of golf was held in the “Settler” Office on Friday evening. Mr D. S. Morris was voted to the chair. Mr Morris remarked upon unsatisfactory conditions obtaining over the space of two years and expressed the opinion that Club troubles were due principally to the unsuitability of the links upon which the Club had endeavoured to develop play in Kawhia. Another area had been favourably reported upon and enquiry instituted regarding the possibilities of acquiring playing rights over Part No. 8 Section 111. situated on the high ground and convertible into excellent golf links at nominal expense. The present lesseeowner was prepared to accept £l5O for his interest in the property or to let playing rights to the Club over a period of 12 months for the sum of £B. The balance sheet showed a credit of £3 19s 6d, which was considered to be satisfactory. The following officers were elected: President, Mr Babbage, vice-pre-sidents, Messrs Beatson, Oldbury and Braine; club captain, Mr D. S. Morris; secretary, Mr R. Ward; committee, Messrs Mackay, Mclntyre, Amos, Clarke, Goldsbro’ and H. Robertson; honorary auditor, Mr M. Goldsbro’. After discussion it was decided to acquire the playing rights over the property under offer for a period of 12 months. The question of taking over the lease was deferred for full consideration. Subscriptions were set at £1 Is, ladies 10s 6d. Beyond the 15-mile radius from Kawhia the membership fee is ,10s 6d and 6s 6d. The preparatory work on the links was left in the hands of Mr Amos, and the opening day is to be decided by the committee. Votes of thanks to the chair and for the use of the “Settler” Office concluded the meeting.
