A very long funeral cortege passed through Te Awamutu to-day bound from Parawera to the railway station, en route to Taupiri, for the burial there of a niece of King Mahuta.

Mr F. L. Kenrick, of the Bank of Zew Zealand staff, Wellington, is temporarily in charge at Te Awamutu, succeeding Mr W, Cook, who was also temporarily in charge. Twenty-eight settlers of Korakonui /and Wliarepuhunga district assembled at Mr J. Kay’s home to discuss how best they could work with the Government in expending the grant of £5OO for road improvement. It was agreed that the money should be spent on the section of road where the settlers did the work last year. It was also agreed to strongly urge the Government to improve the road b<-tween To. Kawa Cross-roads and the Waikeria Reformatory turn-off, a distance of about 3i miles, which is al; present in a very bad state, due largely to the traffic to and from the Reformatory.

rakonui, where he won the esteem of all. Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce is urging the Postmaster-Gen eral to install a stamp-selling machine in the Post Office. A large meeting representative of all sports bodies and others interested in a scheme for improving Albert Park, to make it suitable for all sport, was convened by the Chamber of Commerce. It was agreed to send a delegation of seven to the Domain Board seeking co-operation in devising a scheme of work and meeting the cost. The reckless discharge of a pearifle at Kihikihi yesterday by some unknown person resulted in a young man, Mr W- Bowers, sustaining a nasty wound in the hand. Te Awamutu Fire Brigade has deI cided to ask the Town Board to assume control of the Brigade’s affairs. The Chamber of Commerce is asking the Postal Department to appoint a permanent linesman in Te Awamutu, owing to the delays occurring in effecting repairs to lines.
