Costs of foodstuffs were continually ( rising, said Mr J. Hargest (National, Awarua), at the local Town Hall on Tuesday evening when criticising the present Government, pointing out that the Government leaders had consistently declared that they would not tolerate increase; yet every article touched had gone up in price. In fact, rail freights had been increased by 10 per cent, affecting almost all forms of foodstuffs and essentials, just as the increase affected luxuries. Primary produce for export cost more to rail to the ports, and the producers, of course, had to pay. Fertilisers from the ports cost more to bring to the farms, and again the primary producers had to pay. There were countless other examples.
