“MEADOWCREST” JERSEYS. There was a representative gathering of buyers from the Waikato and Taranaki at the dispersal of Mr T. Smith’s “Meadowcrest” Jersey Stud, held at Otorohanga by Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. Competition was sustained, practically a total clearance resulting, and the only class lacking competition was aged breeding cows. The cows averaged 174 guineas, with the top price of 60 guineas for the V.H.C. cow, Fem Oak Alice, purchased by Mr A. Smith, Hamilton. The same buyer also secured the cow, Fern Oak Flossie, at 50 guineas; while Fern Oak Bellbird H.C. was bought by Mr J. C. Peake, Te Awamutu, at 58 guineas. The top price for heifers was 14J guineas, paid for Meadowcrest Bonny by Mr C. N. Martin, Hamilton. The line averaged 111 guineas. There was reasonable competition for the limited number of bulls offered; the top price being for the 4-year-old herd sire, Silverleys Friendly Sam, purchased by Mr R. D. Thompson, Tokoroa, at 371 guineas. The imported herd sire, Noble’s Design, failed to reach his reserve, being passed in at 250 guineas. Thompson, Tokoroa, 25 gns; Fern Oak Star Baby, W. S. Smith, Kio Kio, 22 gns; Fem Oak Baby, W. S. Smith, Kio Kio, 21 gns; Fern Oak Flos, A. C. Smith, Hamilton, 21 gns; Fern Oak Jewel H.C., F. Phillips, Otorohanga, 20 gns; Fem Oak Pansy, C. Kingscott, Putaruru, 20 gns; Fern Oak Peggy H.C., F. D. Harvey, Waiuku, 20 gns.

CLEARING SALE AT ORAKAU. Newton King Limited held a most successful clearing sale on behalf of Mr J. H. Cullen, Orakau, Te Awamutu on Monday last. Great interest Was shown in the offering of breeding ewes, the line of 450 5-year ewes being keenly competed for to 15s 9d., with the 4 and 6tooth ewes to 24s 2d. Down cross ewes realised 17s 6d, and fat wethers 19s. A line of fat B.F. lambs, 9s. The offering of 60 dairy heifers met with good competition, top price being £lO. Early calving cattle realised from £8 to £1.0., others £6 15s to £7 10s. More backward sorts £5 to £6. A fine line of yearling heifers brought £3. Keen competition was witnessed on the horses, a 9-year old mare in foal realising £40., an aged mare £3l, a 3-year filly (unbroken) £2l 10s, a 2-year colt £lB 10s, a 3-year gelding (unbroken) £l. HEIFER SALE AT POKURU. Newton King Ltd. report holding a very successful dispersal sale of two year dairy heifers on account ‘of Mr J. J. Karl, Pokuru, on Wednesday last. Due to the dry conditions existing earlier in the season the cattle lacked somewhat the size and bloom, but nevertheless a good solid sale resulted. Early calver cattle sold from £8 to £9 15s, others £7 to £7 15s, more backward sorts from £5 10s to £6 15s. The average all over was £7 15s. CLEARING SALE AT ROTOTUNA. Newton King Ltd. report holding a very successful clearing sale yesterday on behalf of Mr E. Fullerton, Rototuna. The cows came forward in good order, no calving dates being available. Early calving cows sold freely from £8 10s to £9 15s, others £7 15s to £8 ss. More backward sorts £6 to £7 ss. A very satisfactory average resulted. The line of yearling heifers realised £2 9s. Keen competition was witnessed on the horses, an 8 year mare' realising £2B 10s, and an aged gelding bringing £27.
