MORE BLOOD STOCK
FOR TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT. THREE CLYDESDALES PURCHASED. Two farmers of Pokuru district, Messrs A. S. Clarke and R. E. C. Boswell, have just returned from a fortnight’s tour, of the South Island, where they inspected quite a number of Clydesdale horses with a view to purchase for this district. Eventually Mr Clarke found a beau-tifully-bred young sire that appealed to him, and negotiations for its purchase were completed. The animal is a three-year-old named Athol Chieftain, a son of imported Dunmore Superb, himself a fine show-ring competitor, gaining a reserve championship and five first prizes. Athol Chieftain’s dam was Athol Patricia, also a great show-ring competitor, for she recorded a championship, two firsts, and five seconds) besides accounting for a challenge cup. Athol Chieftain was acquired from Mi' Donald Spence, the well-known Ashburton district breeder. ■
Another purchase' by : Mr- Clarke was the young mare Lady. Fyvie, hy Fyvia Baronet, and stinted.tQ Netherton Mac, champion at the - 'Royal Show at Invercargill. Lady Fyvie has already gained three firsts and one second in strong show-ring competition. She was purchased from Mr W. Robinson, Dunedin, at his annual sale. . .. 1
At the same sale Mr Boswell secured a very nice type of filly, aged 24 years, by Kowhai Stamp from a Baron Bold mare that had a. good show-ring record including a second at Invercargill Show to Mr Andrew Grant’s champion. These three Clydesdales should be a worthy addition to the bloodstock of Te Awamutu district, and the new owners are congratulated upon their enterprise; •
