DIAMOND JUBILEE

TE AWAMUTU SCHOOL. ARRANGEMENTS FOR 3rd JUNE. In the unavoidable absence of Mr G. S. Clarke, Mr G. B. Melrose was voted to the chair at a meeting of Te Awamutu Schools’ Jubilee Committee on Wednesday evening. There were present, also, Messrs J- G. B. Gifford, W. J North, A. H. Woods, A- A. Reese, L. S. Armstrong, F. Battson, and H. Worthington (secretary). The secretary reported that progress since last meeting had been good, many details being arranged for. The tender oi Mr C. S. Davis for supplying tea, sandwiches, and cakes .at the Town Hall on Jubilee Day (3rd June), both at noon and in the afternoon., was accepted, and it was decided to charge Is 6d per head for the double service.

Reports to hand indicated that-very many of the scholars of the earlier days would attend the celebrations. Mr Worthington stated that he had already received scores of applications, with cash, for the distinguishing badges; and he added that a batch of further applications was coming to hand each day. Provision was also being made for relatives and friends of former scholars.

Strange’s Orchestra is to be engaged for the reunion dance in the Town Hall iiv the evening, with modern and old-time dances, and Olsen’s Tea Rooms will do the catering. The chairman said the jubilee booklet, was almost ready for sale, and he was confident it would be a remarkably fine publication, well edited, printed, and illustrated. It was decided to endeavour to have the scholars* demonstration of sports, drill, and recreation completed by 3.30 p.m. No Waipa Basketball Association games will be played that afternoon at the school grounds, as the courts will be required for the assemblies. In a general discussion it was stated that some confusion arose as to the dates of various school functions. Actually the Royal Jubilee Male Choi] 1 would give a concert in the assembly hall of the Intermediate School tomorrow evening to assist the school funds; on Wednesday next the Minister of Education would open the Intermediate School; the Rangiaohia School would celebrate its diamond jubilee at Hairini two days later (on the Fridav); and next day the diamond jubilee of Te Awamutu schools would be celebrated.
