Mr 'J. Mara, a Maori settler at Parawera, waited on .Waipa 'County Council on Wednesday in connection with the closing of a small piece of road near Mr A. R. Kay’s property, and the re-alignment for a sealed road He objected to the new alignment unless he received the old roadway, plus £ll cash, as compensation. The road had been taken under the Public Works Act, and the question for the Council now was how best to compensate the owner. Mr Mara explained that the land belonged to his wife, and on her decease it was bequeathed to her six children; he was the executor in the estate. The Council decided that' it would not object to Mr Mara securing the part of the disused road, plus the £ll, as agreed upon earlier.
