VALEDICTORY. OTOROHANGA PRESENTATIONS. Following a series of farewells during the past week to Mr and Mrs L. V. Landmann, who are leaving Otorohanga, after a residence of some 1 ten years, the members of Endeavour Lodge 1.0.0. F., N.Z., met to say farewell to Mr Landmann who was a foundation member and the first N.G. Mr Landmann was decorated by Bro. B. McAdam with the golden brooch of the badge of the Order. Several members spoke in eulogistic terms of Bro. Landmann's work for the Order, and wished him good health and happiness in his future sphere of duties at Paeroa. The Returned Soldiers’ Association also farewelled Mr Landmann at the conclusion of their last monthly meeting. The guest of the evening was presented with a fountain pen as a memento of his services as an executive officer of the local branch. Various speakers expressed keen regret at the pending departure from the town of such a worthy citizen. BIRTHDAY PARTY. A HONIKIWI GATHERING. • A surprise birthday party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. H. Graham, Honikiwi, the other evening to celebrate the eighteenth birthday of Miss Maisie Graham, a very popular young lady. Card games and table tennis were featured and musical and vocal numbers were rendered by a number of visitors. Outstanding songs were “Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep,” by Mr D. Williamson, and a duet by Mr and Mrs H. Graham. Mr T. Graham pleased with Scottish tunes on the bagpipes, and Mr H. Graham was very entertaining with tricks and feats of legerdemain. The beautiful birthday cake, with its 18 candles, was cut by the guest of the evening, after which, assisted by Mr Les. Hooper, she unwrapped a wonderful array of beautiful and useful presents. A very happy evening’s entertainment was concluded with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne.” ATHLETIC CLUB’S DANCE. The usual fortnightly dance under the auspices of . the Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, on Thursday evening proved very enjoyable, with dance music supplied by Mrs R. Stewart, supplemented with extras by Mrs Winch and Mrs Fish. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Mrs Trimble and partner, and Mr Jack Hanna contributed a novelty dance that was warmly applauded MISS KERR HONOURED. DINNER AND SOCIAL EVENING. On Saturday last Miss - Lucy Kerr, who is to be married on Wednesday next to Mr G. (“Gillie”) Wood, was entertained at dinner at the Commercial Hotel by Mesdames M). A. Heath, A. Moon, A. Law, D. Crosbie and H. V. Holmes and the Misses Downey, Head and Havern, ladies she had been associated with as tenants in Mrs Heath’s apartment house. Thereafter the whole party adjourned to Mrs Heath’s residence where Miss Kerr was tendered a handkerchief evening.

During the evening, Mr D. Crosbie, in asking Miss Kerr’s acceptance of the gifts, wished her, on behalf of those assembled good health, happiness and prosperity in her married state. Mr G. Wood suitably replied on behalf of his bride-to-be.
