NATIONAL CANDIDATE

FOR THE WAITOMO SEAT. MR BROADFOOT NOMINATED. * The nomination of Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., as official National Party candidate for Waitomo was enthusiastically endorsed at one of the biggest meetings of the kind ever held in Te Kuiti, reports the King Country Chronicle. Every branch of the partyin the Waitomo electorate was repre- 1 sented, and no less than 100 delegates were present last Friday. The conference was presided over by Mr J. N. Boddie, chairman of the Waitomo electorate committee, and associated with him were Mr Braithwaite, secretary of the South Auckland Division of the National Party, and the member for Waitomo, Mr W. J. Broadfoot.

No other nominations being received, Mr Broadfoot was declared the official National candidate for Waitomo. The declaration of Mr Broadfoot as the candidate was the signal for an outburst of prolonged applause. After this had died down the chairman, Mr Boddie, congratulated Mr Broadfoot on his nomination, and also congratulated the people of the electorate on having in Mr Broadfoot a man of such great ability, backed by extensive Parliamentary experience. ready’ to offer them his services. That Mr Broadfoot would be the official candidate he had always looked on as a foregone conclusion. In replying Mr Broadfoot stressed the need for thorough organisation within this electorate and throughout the Dominion. Nothing could be accounted as sure in the forthcoming elections, and he urged supporters ol the National Party to lend their weight in active support of their candidate. Mr Braithwaite then addressed the meeting on matters affecting the organisation of the party for the forthcoming elections. An able speaker, he held the very close attention of his audience.

Votes of thanks to Mr Broadfoot and Mr Braithwaite terminated one of the most successful meetings concerning election organisation ever held in Te Kuiti—delegates stated that never before in this district had they- seen such enthusiasm displayed as at this meeting, and at the initial conference of the delegates two or three months ago.
