CYCLE ROAD RACE

TIME TRIAL SUCCESSFUL. McCALLUM’S GOOD EFFORT. The Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held a IG-mile time trial race round Pirongia last Saturday afternoon. There were thirteen starters and after drawing for positions, McCallum was the first away, followed by J. A. Robertson, J. Pickrell, G. Allen, M. Bridge, D. Lapwood. J. Dyer, B. Irwin, A. Coxhead, L. Melville, and L. Liddington. J. A. Robertson soon went to the front and although Picknell was not far behind, he could not overtake him. With the Exception of J. T. Robertson, who had the misfortune to puncture, all finished the course. The results of the race are based on the time taken (including handicaps), and therefore the positions of the riders at the start was of no gain to them. After a solid ride, B. Irwin, who arrived home fourth, gained first place, while that game little rider McCallum was placed second, a very meritorious achievement when it is taken into consideration that he is only a boy, and did not have the service of his proper machine. M. C. Bridge was third. The time honours went to J. Picknell, whose placing in this was very popularly received, while D. Lapwood was second and M. Bridge third. Details:— B. Irwin (3m 15s) 1 McCallum (12m) 2 M. C. Bridge (lm 455) 3 TIME HONOURS? J. Picknell (42m 12s) 1 D. Lapwood (43m 13s) 2 M. C. Bridge (43m 20s) 3 TRACK AND ROAD RECORDS. TRACK RECORDS.
