ALBERT PARK

OCCUPANCY OF BUILDINGS. DOMAIN BOARD DISCUSSION. A brief meeting of Te Awamutu Domain Board was held on Monday evening, the Mayor and all borough councillors (who constitute the Board) being present. The annual report was tabled by the clerk, Mr D. Bockett. There was a credit balance of £B6, and the various items of receipts and expenditure were quoted. Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club inquired for a decision in regard to the Club’s earlier application to be allowed to rent one of the sheds at Albert Park in which to store the Club’s equipment. The chairman said the buildings were intended as dressing sheds. On Saturdays about 150 footballers used the park, and many hockey players also; if the room were rented for storage it would not be available as a dressing shed. The Boy Scouts organisation had also wanted a room for parades and practices. Mr J. A. Maxwell thought the Board could hardly grant exclusive use to one organisation for any of the buildings for a term. Mr W. J. North said there was certainly no room under the grandstand that could be made available. Mr G. Spinley said that if a room was available the Boy Scouts should have first preference, as they had applied a year ago. The hockey players had not been adequately provided for, and they had been very tolerant. After some further discussion it was decided to defer the matter.
