WAIPA RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS.. The president, Mr R. S. Sinclair, occupied the chair at the weekly meeting of the Waipa Rugby Union management committee on Monday evening, and also present were Messrs Brown. P. Stephens, C. W. Smith, T. Dalziel, R. L. Adams, S. Baddeley and the secretary, Mr R. Dalziell. The need for more rule books was mentioned, and the secretary was instructed to procure six copies of the New Zealand Union’s rule books. C. McGruther, a registered senior player with the Rovers Club, attended and asked for re-grading to junior status, explaining that he was dairy T ing and could not afford to travel for Stag Competition games.—After consideration, the application was granted. A deputation from the Grandstand Trustees, comprising Messrs G. Spinley, W. J. North, and G. Gifford, with Mr J. L. Callaghan, attended to discuss with the committee several matters of mutual interest, including the provision of a certain number of passes to the grandstand for officials. A lengthy discussion took place, in which several aspects were referred to, and eventually the delegation intimated that it would reach decision and advise the Management Committee as soon as possible. It was decided to arrange, if possible, for a regular timekeeper for the senior games on No. 1 ground, at Albert Park. Messrs J. Whitehead and W. Ryan were appointed gatekeepers at Albert Park, Mr R. S. Clegg not being available owing to continued illness. It was decided that Saturday next be a charge day, the hope being expressed that much-needed funds would be forthcoming from the football-lov-ing public. Te Awamutu Club was granted permission for its senior team, which has a bye next Saturday in the Stag Competition, to play an outside team, either at Te Awamutu or elsewhere. Mr Brown was granted leave of absence from meetings of the committee as he will be absent from the district for a fortnight. NOTES AND COMMENTS. A FOURTH-GRADE COMPETITION. Reports to hand indicate: that the Rovers v. Frankton match at Hamilton last Saturday, in the Stag Competition, which ended in a draw with 14 points all, was lively throughout, with flashes of really fine combined work—notably when Frankton registered their final try in the first spell. Everest, Davies and Jones threw the ball about, and Everest had little difficulty in evading Rovers’ fullback. Of Rovers’ fourteen points, L. Young contributed eleven one conversion and three penalty goals. Rovers were hard pressed in the final stages of thq game, but managed to prevent scores. There were some exciting exchanges between individual players in the Te Awamutu v. Technical match at Albert Park on Saturday, and at times the spectators had the impression that there was a good deal of animosity existing between certain players. Te Awannutu’s most effective, players on the day seemed to be J. Hanna and J. G. Wynyard, who were both toiling hard throughout. Some of the others were not far behind the two named in the matter of usefulness. Technical’s most effective players seemd to be Dalbeth (fullback), Tetz laff (halfback) and Flanagan (forward). The junior game next Saturday, Rovers v. Waikeria, should be an attractive one-, and each side has its supporters—and critics. The Te Awamutu v. Ngutunui clash at Albert Park was not as exciting as some of the spectators anticipated, but each side is understood to have improved its attack so that their meetings with Ohaupo and Pirongia on Saturday should be worth seeing. It is of interest to note that the Junior Advisory Board has commenced a fourth-grade competition, and as this is the cradle of Rugby so far as this district is concerned, it is to be hoped the innovation will be accorded judicious encouragement. REFEREES FOR SATURDAY. The. following referees have been appointed for Saturday’s game under the Waipa Rugby Union: Seniors: Rovers v. Old Boys, Mr H. Thompson; Juniors: Rovers v. Waikeria, Mr R. Annibal; Hospital v. Korakonui (at Hospital), Mr T. Brown; Pirongia v. Ngutunui (at Pirognia), Mr C. Sergeant: Ohaupo v. Te Awamutu (at Ohaupo), Mr Madgwick. Thirds: Pirongia v. Te Awamutu, Mr I.
