REFERENDUM INCONCLUSIVE. ATTITUDE OF DAIRY BOARD. In regard to the recent referendum on the proposed rationalisation of the bobby calf trade, the Internal Marketing Department officially announces that returns were received from 265 dairy factories throughout the Dominion and in the case of 253 factories the suppliers actually voted on the proposals, while in the case of 12 factories the directors alone voted on the issue. The total number of suppliers represented by these returns amounted to 60,454, of whom 13,841 voted, giving a percentage vote for the whole Dominion of 23 per cent. Returns were received from 41 factories of which 34 registered a vote for, six against, and one registered an even vote. Details of the voting in the Auckland Province were: Total suppliers represented, 26.124; suppliers voting for, 5213; suppliers voting against, 1644; majority for, 3569. In the Taranaki district there was a majority of 1194 against the proposals. THE PRODUCER POOLS. On the day of the return of the Dairy Board and Farmers’ Union delegates from the Empire .Producers’ Conference at Sydney, the Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Marketing, met those who had been present at the previous conference on the bobby calf issue. After discussion the following resolution was carried unanimously and forwarded to the Minister: “This conference is still of opinion that the necessary legislative powers should be conferred upon to Board to take such action as may be deemed advisable to protect producer pools at present operating, or which may be formed in the future, in the interests of producers in such pool areas.”
