WAIPA COMPETITIONS COMMENCED. PLAY AT ALBERT PARK. With matches against overseas teams this year, interest in hockey in Te Awamutu district promises to leach a high level as the weeks go by. The Waipa Hockey Association’s championship competitions were commenced on Saturday last, when the Empson Cup (men) and Finch Rose bowl (ladies) matches were, played. Three games were p’ayed at Albert Park, and two at Otorohanga. In the men’s competition Te Awamutu B and Te Rahu met at Albert Park, and the former registered a win by five goals to nil. The scorers were Bathurst (2), Bert Spiers, Payne and Taylor. Te Awamutu A and Otorohanga A also mat at Albert Park, and a very keen contest ended in a draw, each side scoring two goals. Paterangi had a decisive win over Otorohanga A on the latter’s ground, the final scores being: Paterangi 7, Otorohanga 1. FINCH ROSEBOWL. Paterangi ladies’ eleven proved too clever for Hairini, and the final score was: Paterangi 4 goals, Hairini 2.
