OPARAU SHEEP FAIR. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company reports having held its annual Oparau sheep fair on Monday, when fully the advertised entry of sheep came forward. ‘The market for all classes was steady, and one of the best fairs of the season so far resulted, this being particularly noticeable in the ewe section. Lambs also sold readily, several of the top lines creating keen competition. In the wether section a full entry sold readily, a total clearance being effected. We quote:—

Best shorn wether lambs 15s 3d to 16s Id, medium 12s 6d to 14s 3d, small and cull 7s to 11s 6d, best woolly wether lambs 14s to 17s 3d, medium and smaller 10s 6d to 13s, cull lambs 7s to 9s 3d, best woolly ewe lambs 21s lOd to 255, smaller 14s 3d to 18s 6d, best shorn ewe lambs 17s 6d to 19s lOd, forward 2-toorh wethers 23s 6d to 255, medium 21s to 22s 9d, small 18s 6d to 19s 6d, 2tooth ewes 31s 6d to 355, small 24s to 28s 9d, 4 and 6-tooth ewes 26s to 28s 3d, 4 and 5-year ewes 23s to 27s 3d, 5-year ewes 22s 6d to 25s 6d, s.m. ewes 15s 6d to 21s, aged ewes 8s to 14s 3d, Roanney rams 3£ to 5i guineas, 1-shear Southdown rams 3 guineas.

HAMILTON RAM FAIR. An improvement in the average prices realised was seen at the annual Hamilton ram fair, which was opened at Claudelands show grounds yesterday. There was a large bench of buyers from all parts of the Waikato. The market for the first offering of Southdowns was quiet, several lots being passed, but in the afternoon the prices had become much firmer, the best 1-shear rams consistently reaching 7 guineas. The top price for the sale was 10i guineas, and it is estimated that the average price obtained was at least one guinea firmer for all classes.

WAINGARO RAM FAIR.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd. report having held their Waingaro ewe fair on Wednesday as under:—

A really good yarding of ewes was offered to a full bench of buyers from all parts of the Waikato and although the sheep were in some cases feeling the effects of the dry weather experienced on the West Coast the majority were in nice order and well up to the usual good quality found at these yards. All the really good lines of ewes sold well the poorer sorts also meeting with quite a fair demand and a total clearance was made. Our offering totalled 4203. Following were our main sales: — 271 small 2-tooth ewes 28s 163 fair ditto 34s 6d 34 good ditto 36s 6d, 157 ditto 355, 59 small ditto 31s 3d, 168 good ditto 365, 25 small ditto 295, 53 ditto 4 and 6-tooth ewes 30s, 33 ditto 30s 6d, 168 4 and 5-year ewes 295, 59 small 4 and 6-tooth ewes 24s 3d, 189 4 and 5-year ewes 29s 6d, 39 mixedage ewes 24s 6d, 137 5-year ewes 265, 236 5-year 255, 129 4 and 5-year 27s 6d, 167 old ewes 17s 6d, 132 5 and 6year 21s 6d, 146 mixed ages 225, 107 5-year 245, 60 aged ewes 17s, 1138 5year 23s 3d, 180 4 and 5-year 265, 61 sound mouths 21s, 59 mixed ages 245, 53 4 and 5-year 27s 9d, 51 mixed ages 255, aged and cull ewes 10s 6d, 12s 6d to 14s 3d, small 2-tooth ewes 20s,' 22s to 25s 6d Southdown rams li to 2 guineas aged Romney ram potters 10s 6d to 14s.

SALE AT MATAMATA. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Matamata on Wednesday as under:— Sheep: Down-cross 2-tooth ewes 24s to 28s, s.m. ewes 16s, f.m. 14s to 14s 3d, cull sorts 9s 9d, phorn black-face lamb 13s 6d, good woolly lambs .to 15s 9d, smaller 12s 6d, cull 9s to 10s 6d. Cattle: Beef was inclined to be dull at opening, but improved as the sale progressed. Light fat heifers made £5 to £6 Is, good-quality cows £5 5s to £6, heavy bonesr £3 10s to £4 12s, rough sorts £2 to £3 ss, heavy bulls £6 7s 6d to £8 ss, lighter £4 5s to £6 2s 6d.

Pigs: There was a very heavy penning of all classes of pigs. Fats, particularly baconers, met with a very ready demand. Porkers, owing to the fall in schedule, were not readily in demand, but choppers met with very ready sale. Prime top-weight baconers made £3 18s to £3 19s, prime heavy £3 10s to £3 18s, heavy £3 6s to £3 10s, medium £3 to £3 6s, light £2 15s to £3, heavy porkers £2 8s to £2 12s, medium £2 2s to £2 Bs, light £1 16s to £2 2s, small £1 10s to £2 10s, small £1 10s to £1 16s, prime heavy choppers £3 10s to £4 Is, medium £2 10s to £3 ss, light £1 10s to £2 10s, sows to farrow £2 10s, sow with litter £5, best store pigs £1 6s to £1 10s, meduim £1 2s to £1 6s, small 16s to £l, best slips 10s to 14s, best weaners 6s to 10s.
