NATIONAL PARTY

THE WAIKATO ELECTORATE. TWENTY-EIGHT BRANCHES FORMED. The central committee organising for the National Party in the Waikato electorate has carried out extensive work, and now the full complement of twenty-eight branches has been completed. Meetings have been held in all parts cf the electorate, being attended in practically every case by Messrs Edgar James (chairman) and Alan R. Hill (secretary). The twenty-eight branches formed are Cambridge, Hautapu, Fencourt, Leamington, Karapiro, Roto-o-Rangi, Maungatautari, Te Miro, Tamahere, Eureka, Tauwhare, Matangi, Kiwitahi, Ohaupo, Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Ngarua, Wardville, Waihou, Waitoa, Puahue, Paterangi, Te Aroha West, Man;afwaru, Motumaoho, Tatuanui, and Kereone. It has been decided that the candidate should not be selected until two thousand financial members had been secured in the electorate. Waikato is now approaching the two thousand five hundred mark, and it is desired to have the candidate in the field as soon as possible. Branches are now engaged in appointing their representatives to the selection committee, which will make the final choice of a candidate for the electorate. Application will shortly be requested from all persons who wish to offer themselves for selection. The election committee is to be set up not later than 14th February.

The committee will consist of representatives for every complete fifteen qualified members of each branch. The selection will be made at a special meeting, when each candidate will be privileged to speak for a period of not less than ten minutes or for any longer period that the meeting may decide. Voting will be by ballot on the preferential system. Every candidate nominated must abide by the decision of the selection committee, and refuse nomination as a candidate for Parliament if not selected.
