HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES

AWARD RATES OF PAY. WAIKATO BOARD'S DECISION. The Waikato Hospital Board, at its meeting yesterday, decided on the recommendation of the House and Finance Committee to agree to pay, as from August 2, 1937, the minimum rate of salaries as provided in the award governing the Northern Industrial Local Authorities’ Officers’ Union.

The board further agreed that the existing scale of increases adopted by the board on April 1, 1937, would be altered only in so far as to pay the minimum award rates of salaries. Annual leave will be granted to employees in accordance with the Health Department regulations and the board agreed to January 2 and January 29 as the two additional holidays under clause 6 of the award. The secretary and the house manager were declared exempt from the award. It was further agreed to give £5 to the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association, in recognition of the work it had done for the board. In reply to a question, the secretary, Mr K. C. Burgess, stated that increased wages payments made under the award up to the end of this year would amount to £67.
