A. AND P. SHOW

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANNUAL SHOW. The president, Mr A. H. Storey, presided at a meeting of the Te Awamutu Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Association on Wednesday evening, and also present were Messrs W. G. Macky, G. Reynolds, W. F. Woodward, A. W. Gregory, H. C. Rainey, W. G. Park, A. E. Ray, S. Rhodes, M. H. Williams, J. S. Pattison, H. Allen, and the secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard. The secretary reported that Saturday, February 12th, 1938, had been allotted for the association's annual show. SHOW AT ALBERT PARK. The clerk, Te Awamutu Domain Board, advised that Albert Park would be available for the show, and that parking of cars would have to be according to the wishes of the Board. Mr Wynyard said definite authority had not been received from the grandstand trustees for the use of the grandstand. The trustees required a rental of £lO a year ago, but as no show was held at that time the matter was not finalised.

To a question, Mr Wynyard said the £lO was for occupancy of the home industry hall and offices, the trustees to make a charge to show patrons for seating in the grandstand. Mr Rainey said the horticultural section was never a profitable department for the Association.

The president undertook to confer with the trustees in an endeavour to reach agreement. Reference was made to the fact that the schedules printed last year (and not used owing to the abandonment of the show, consequent on the infantile paralysis epidemic restrictions, were ready for issue for the forthcoming show. This would reduce costs. — Agreed to. The secretary reported that judges for most of the sections had been arranged for, those appointed for last year having undertaken to officiate at the coming show. The Southdown Sheep Society wrote suggesting the appointment of a junior judge to act with the senior official, with a view to encouraging and providing competent judges in the future. Members present approved the suggestion, and the matter was left to the various breed associations to arrange. MORE MEMBERS. To a question, the secretary said the Association's membership was not as large as it could be, and he suggested an energetic campaign to enrol new members. Dr Tothill (Tokanui), L. A. Rollitt (Puahua), Cyril .Parish (Puahue), R. Galpin (Puahue), and C. M. Whitehouse (Te Awamutu) were elected members of the Association. Mr Reynolds’ offer to make table tops for the horticultural section exhibits was gladly accepted as also was the president s offer of a silk ribbon to adorn the champion hack. It was mentioned that Mr E. Allan, of Buckland, who has acted as judge of the horticultural division for about sixteen years, is in very indifferent health at present and may not be recovered sufficiently in time to again act as judge. Members expressed concern, and the secretary is to write Mr Allen. It was decided to appoint stewards at next meeting of the executive, to be held soon after the holidays. A NEW DEPARTMENT. Mr Williams said he had been asked to put forward a suggestion for a new section—national and fancy dancing—for the show. The total cost to the Association would be £lO, and the South Auckland Caledonian Society would undertake all • the arrangements, thus freeing the secretary and his staff from any work or worry. There would be a lot of local support, for one teacher of dancing had 70 local pupils. He mentioned that at Hamilton and Otorohanga shows the innovation had proved very successful in every respect. It had proved much more attractive to patrons than even the varied sideshows.

Members approved the idea, and Mr Williams and the secretary were asked to obtain some further information on the subject.
