OBITUARY

Miss emily McPherson. One of the earliest white settlers in the Rangitcto district, in the person of Miss Emily McPherson, passed away on Saturday last at the Te Kuiti Hospital after a very short illness. The deceased lady came to the King Country from Turakina (Rangiteiki), 27 years ago to live with her brothers, Messrs E. and J. McPherson, who were among the earliest settlers of the Rangitotos. The family experienced all the hardships of the early settlers in the roadless, forest-clad hinterland, but eventually overcoming all obstacles, converted their large holding from its primevial state to n productive property. The deceased lady was universally popular and will be much missed among the settlers of Rangitoto. She was 68 years of age. MRS ETHEL MILLER. PRESIDENT OF WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. Mrs Ethel Miller, the president of the Te Kuiti branch of the Women’s Institute, passed away at the Waikato Hospital on Sunday last after having been in indifferent health for some years past. The deceased lady was 66 years of age and arrived in the Northern King Country from North Auckland some years ago and eventu ally made her home at Te Kuiti. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. Miss Winifred Miller, a teacher at the Hangatiki School, is a daughter. Although the late Mrs Miller was keenly interested in the affairs of th? Women’s Institute, her health only permitted her to attend a few meetings since her election as president of the Te Kuiti branch. She will be greatly missed by this and other women’s organisations, and a host of King Country and Northland friencs. MRS ISABEL R. GRAHAM. A well-known and respected settler of the Honikiwi district, Mrs Isabel R. Graham, passed awav at the Waikato Hospital on Saturday last after a short illness. The late Mrs Graham came to the Otorohanga district from Opunake to reside on Te Roto Road (Honikiwi). Her husband (Mr T. R. Graham), two daughters and two sons survive her. A largely attended memorial service was conducted by the Rev. S. W. Webber, at Honikiwi, representative of district settlers. The interment took place in the Otorohanga Cemetery, and the respect in which deceased was held was evidenced bv the large cortege.
