INTERESTING EVENTS CHRONICLED. AS REPORTER IN WAIPA POST JULY 12th, 1912. Messrs Garston and Tucker have leased Mr D. O’Shea's sawmill at Pirongia. Mr M. C. Lawson writes to the Editor stressing the need for better roads and suggesting that Government be approached to put a line of railway into Mt. Kakepuku to obtain cheap and good metal. Land sales announced include Messrs Ireland and Ryan’s 200 acres close to Te Awamutu, and Mr Neilson’s 200 acres at Pirongia.

Contributors to an organ recital at St. John’s Church were Mesdames Woollass, Henderson and Ahier, Messrs W. Jeffery, Laurie, Galloway, J. Bathurst, Moeller and de Ridder. The Waipa Jockey Club appointed Mr L. Bayly to handicap the trotting events and Mr F. Quin the galloping events at next month's race meeting. Waipa County Council’s contribution to the Hospital Board is £771 4s lOd for the current year. The new school building al Kakepuku was opened last Monday, when the mothers treated the children to a surprise party. The Te Awamutu Town Board meeting (attended by Messrs C. Bow den, A. S. Wallace and S. Mathews) received a deputation (Messrs Christian and Lawson) from the inhabit ants of Roache Street asking the Board to give them a crossing and improve the footpath. After some dis cussion Mr Bygrave was instructed te keep the main crossing as clean as. possible until a limestone crossing could be put down. It was also decided that a little sand be put on tho footpath near Edwards’ shop. The forming of a footpath in Bank Street was being continued. .Park Road is to be reformed and widened; Puniu Road to be reformed and graded; Carlton Street to receive attention and the middle road near the old mill regraded and sanded. > AS REPORTED ON JULY 16th. Mr Hector Sutherland's farm (late Hutchinson’s) at Kihikihi changed hands at £22 per acre. The buyers s were Messrs Ireland and Ryan, 163 ; acres; Coxhead (Matapu) 300 acres, and Hendrickson (Matapu) 150 acres. : Rangiaohia Road Board, receiving a request from Messrs Thomas, McKibbin and Ohlson for a road giving access to their properties at Te Rahu, asked what amount they would contribute to the cost, adding that the Board was not legally bound to pro- ! vide access. i There is advocacy for holding monst ter combined concerts by the HamilI ton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu musical societies. Maniapoto Rugby team defeated Waipa 16 to 8. Te Awamutu juniors defeated Otorohanga 9 to 5. Te Awamutu Town Board (chairman, ,Mr Chas. Bowden) notifies in tention to raise a loan of £20,000 — £lB,OOO for construction of waterworks for the supply of water, including the purchase of all necessary land, plant and materials, and £2OOO for formation, construction and metalling of streets. Another loan proposed is £BOOO to construct gasworks and other things necessary or proper for the supply of gas. Three men were charged at the Magistrate’s Court with disturbing a dance at Pirongia.
