CONTEMPORARY ART

SOCIETY’S CHOICE OF A “BUYER.” Mr J. M. Keynes, who has been . elected this year’s “buyer” for the Contemporary Art Society, has a fine collection of modern paintings himself, says the “Evening Standard.” His collection includes paintings byCezanne, Seurat and Sickert. Besides being an art connoisseur, don, pcmoany director and professional economist, Mr Keynes is a theatre manager. He is largely responsible for the New Theatre at Cambridge, where his wife. Lydia Lopokova, often acts. As the Contemporary Art Society’s “buyer,” he succeeds, among others, the late Sir Cyril Butler, Sir Edward March, Lord Ivor Churchill and the Earl of Sandwich. A new “buyer” is appointed each year, and with him rests the choice of the pictures that are to be bought by the society and presented to public galleries.
