AND THEIR LOCALITIES. Often in newspaper notes and articles reference it made to various more or less powerful and influential Maori tribes and hapus, but seldom is there a definite indication given of the localities in which they reside. In poring over an old volume I noticed a list prepared by a well-informed gentleman. The list was decidedly informative, and many of the present generation will doubtless appreciate the-re-publication of it. It should be noted that these tribes, which constitute the principal division of the Maori race, are all subdivided into hapus, or tribal families, bearing often a different appellation to that of the parent tribe, to which, however, each hapu claims a direct relationship.
