COUNTY CHAIRMEN
ELECTIONS ON MAY 26. Although county council elections are held triennially on the second Wednesday in May, the chairmen are elected annually by the councils, the date for the elections this year being May 26. Under the sections in the Counties Act (1920) which govern these elections, it is laid down that the annual meetings of all county councils shall be held at noon on the fourth Wednesday in May, the business including the election of chairman. The meeting is presided over by the county clerk, who, in cases of equality of votes, determines the election by lot.
