WAIPA CHAMPIONSHIPS. LAST SATURDAY’S CONTESTS. Four games under the auspices of the Waipa Hockey Association were played cn the headquarters grounds at Albert Park last Saturday in fine weather, but the attendance of spectators was meagre. Results:— Empson Cup.—Te Awamutu B, 2 v. Otorohanga A, 1. Paterangi 5, v. Pirongia 1. Finch Rosebowl.—Pirongia, 13 v. Otorohanga B 1. Paterangi, 5 v. Ngatahuia 1. THE EMPSON CUP. Pirongia and Paterangi men’s teams competed in the Empson Cup competition, and the Paterangis soon showed that they are a skilled combination, for they frequently outplayed the opposition, to notch five goals, L. Spiers registered four and A. Read one. Pirongia’s only score was obtained by C. Rowe. Te Awamutu B and Otorohanga A teams also met in the same competition, and a very evenly contested match ended in favour of the home eleven by two goals (got by Rahman and Spiers) to Otorohanga’s one, registered by A. Lee. FINCH ROSEBOWL. Paterangi and Ngatahuia teams were well matched in the competition for the ladies’ championship, and Paterangin finally won by five goals (four by R. Spiers and one by E. Spiers), to one. In the same competition Pirongia and Otorohanga B met, but the southerners proved well* below the standard of their opponents, who piled on thirteen goals (G. Bell 6, Sifleet 3, I. Beet 3, and S. Bell 1), to the lone score by Mrs Corbett for Otorohanga.
