WAIPA COUNTRY ASSOCIATION. PATERANGI WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. The weather was not ideal last Saurday for the final game in the Waipa Country Cricket Association’s championship fixtures for the present season, but as both teams were ready it was decided to play. The game took place on the Frontier Road Club's pitch, and proved decidedly exciting. The finalists were Paterangi and Waikeria, winners of the northern and southern zone championships respectively. Paterangi eventually won by 16 runs. Batting first, Paterangi made 140 runs, with Parr 32, Spiers 36 and Monahan 44 the double figure men. Morgan captured 4 wickets for 66, and Buckley 3 for 37. Waikeria’s first innings realised 95 runs, with Morgan 36, Ray 26 and Buckley 19 the only players to reach double figures. E. Edwards, with 4 for 30 runs, was the most effective bowler. Paterangi, in their second innings, could not get going, and were all out for 32 runs. Monahan was top scorer with 6. Morgan and Davis were very destructive with the ball, the former getting 4 wickets for 12 and Davis 5 for 15. Waikeria were thus in a good position to win the match, but the “tail” failed to wag, and the innings closed for 61 runs. Buckley 37 not out, and Morgan 15 wore again the mainstays of the team, but they could not win without the help of their team mates, even to holding up the wicket while Buckley scored the runs. Spiers captured 4 wickets for 12 and E. Edwards 3 for 12.

At the close of play the Steele Jubilee Shield, the championship trophy, was duly handed over to the Paterangi Club as victors for the season just closing, and all concerned in the victory were heartily applauded.
