BRITAIN’S STRENGTH
TO BE ON THE SIDE OF PEACE. The need for a strong Britain to command respect is stressed by Mr. Baldwin in a message to Conservatives, published in “Home and Empire.” “We are pushing ahead with our rearmament on an increasing and, indeed, formidable scale, in order that we may be able to throw the whole of our weight on to the side of peace,” he writes. “We do not believe that by the mere piling up of armaments we shall obtain peace and prosperity, but we do believe that our own country will not be able to play its proper part, or make its full contribution to peace and prosperity until it has behind it the strength to command respect and attention.”
