CAN OF CREAM SPILT
CLAIM AGAINST COUNCIL. It may be no use crying over spilt milk, but there is a chance of getting compensation for spilt cream. This at least may be the experience of a Kereone settler who has complained to the .Piako County Council that a county lorry when backing had knocked over a cream can at the gate and spilled cream valued at £1 8s 6d. “He had no cream stand or platform," said the engineer, who had asked the settler what would have happened if travelling stock had knocked the can over. “I think you and your men must be credited with having more sense than animals,” was the reply of the settler in a letter read to the council. Councillors commented that farmers should have proper cream stands on the roadsides, but many left their cans on the ground. Without creating a precedent they thought compensation might be given. This matter was left to the riding member (Mr W. R. Lowry) for favourable consideration.
