SOCIAL AFTERNOON. The Garden Social held under the auspices of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union to be held at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. B. Wilson, owing to weather conditions was held in the Presbyterian Hall, on Saturday last. The hall was arranged as a drawing room and artistically decorated with bowls of flowers on occasional tables. Mrs B. ~ht-Wilson presided. There was an attendance of between 50 and 60 present, including artists from Hamilton, Kihikihi and local talent. A very enjoyable programme was presented. Little Miss Jean McLauchlan delighted all with her violin solos, as also did Miss Ciscila McLaughlan and Mrs McLauchlan gave several selections on the banjo. Miss Shaw’s contralto solos “Fisher Lad” and “Melisande in the Wood” were most pleasing. Mesdames E. White and T. Nicholson played a pianoforte duet which was encored. A competition during the afternoon was won by Miss Tipler and Mrs Gittos. Afternoon tea dispensed, brought i very pleasant evening to a close, after which some took the opportunity of seeing the garden.
