AFTERNOON AT POKURU

BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED. Members of the Pokuru Bible Class assembled at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. E. Ray on Saturday afternoon to bid farewell to one of its most popular members, Miss Winifred Fear. The afternoon was spent playing tennis and other games. Mr P. Whitelaw also spoke of Miss Fear’s sterling qualities. Miss Fear, in replying, said the work of the Bible had always been a great help to her, and she wished all members of the Class continued success in the future. A dainty afternoon tea brought a very happy afternoon to a close. Miss Fear, who is to be married on Wednesday, was also the guest of honour at an afternoon given by Miss B. Budden at her parents’ residence the previous Saturday. Owing to the inclement weather tennis and other outdoor games were impossible, but indoors quite a large party of young people thoroughly enjoyed themseb.es with games and competitions. After afternoon tea had been served, Miss Budden asked Miss Fear to accept the gifts by which her many friends showed their good W’ishes for her future happiness, and remarked that though Miss Fear would make her home in another district (Paterangi) all hoped the long-existing friendships would continue. Miss Fear appropriately replied.
